"There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs."

My love for photography began with my grandfather’s camera and a lot of curiosity. I was born and raised in Rexburg, Idaho. My grandfather was an amateur photographer, and I loved flipping through his photo albums. One day, I talked him into lending me his beloved Nikon FG. I’m not quite sure why he entrusted his camera equipment to a teenager, but I wasn’t about to question it. I was hooked from then on. I went on to study photography at Brigham Young University–Idaho, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in photography. My favorite classes involved learning dark room techniques and traditional photo printing.

After college, I worked as a commercial photographer for an online retailer, gaining experience behind the lens in a fast-paced environment. Life took a new turn when my husband joined the Air Force. Since then, our family has moved across the country, living in places like New Mexico, Las Vegas, Colorado, Alabama, and now Virginia. Each location has shaped my artistic perspective, with New Mexico leaving a particularly lasting impression through its desert landscape and unique blend of Native American and Hispanic art and culture. I miss the green chile every day. If you know, you know.

Throughout all the moves, I’ve continued to stay creative by designing t-shirts and running a small Etsy shop where I sell handmade goods. But no matter where I live, I’m always drawn back to nature. I love any opportunity to photograph wildlife and landscapes, and living in Virginia, many times those opportunities are right outside my front (or back) door.

I love to spend time with my two boys and husband, exploring new places, and diving into other creative outlets like music, drawing, and hand lettering.
